An Army on the ground has to defend against attacks from the air. Air defense Soldiers target and destroy any enemy that flies. With the ability to identify hostile aircraft using GPS, radio and the FLIR (forward-looking infrared receiver), air defense Soldiers track and eliminate targets using the AVENGER and PATRIOT missile systems. These systems are highly mobile and accurate, using laser range finders to identify targets.
Prepared and trained to reload missile systems and fire Stinger missiles, air defense Soldiers can eliminate anything in the air that poses a threat.

Engineers build anything and everything the Guard needs. From surveying and bulldozing to framing and wiring, engineers are responsible for taking on construction or demolition projects of any size from beginning to end. These projects can range from paving roads to setting up fortifications for hundreds of Soldiers. Combat engineers put these skills to use on the battlefield, destroying obstacles in the way of troops, or detecting and eliminating mines.
